I have decided to make some posts about my new project "Coilgun f01" and suddenly remembered that I had an old blogspot account. And now it will revived for this purpose.
Now let`s describe basics. Aside of basic basic like "energy of battery transfers to kinetic with coils" and so on.
- It will be like 12-coil gun
- Full auto (at least one version)
- Reliable for use
- Powered by 2x6S LiPO in series with total voltage of ~50 volts.
- Target current is around 100 Amps.
- Barrel is controversial thing. For now it will be plastic tube with inner diameter ~5.1 mm and outer diameter ~8 mm
- Power switching is IRF3206S MOSFET. Maybe in parallel of 2 on first/second stage
Lets talk about previous iterations. My first coilgun was simple capacitors powered, relay switched single stage prototype. I call it f00. It was quite long time ago (15 years+), it worked but had nothing special about. Next attempt was 3-stage thyristor switched and capacitors powered thing. That was failed because of lack of schematic knowledge and practice. And therefore it has no name.
Now I`ll take iterative approach on construction and it will take some time.
And now when first iteration is done I`m staring write-ups.
